Clip to ScrapBook #1

Greetings OneOldGoat- Thank you so much for taking the time to apply to our position. We were so thrilled with the caliber of applicants we received. We did select a different candidate for the position, but Mr.OtherPrincipal and I wanted to share it was neck and neck, and hope you will continue to watch for more openings here. We anticipate growth, and we were impressed with you.

*sigh*

Well.... I keep telling myself that subbing next year is probably a better idea since I have some issues in my family (my dad is very ill and I've been driving 3 hours to and 3 hours from to take him to his doctor appointments and check on him) and subbing will give me flexibility.

I will, of course, write back to the principal... I would like to ask him what it was that put the other candidate ahead of me. Is that appropriate?

I'm sorry that you didn't get it.

As for the email, I don't know about asking. I've always wanted to ask, but chickened out!

I think it would definitely be appropriate to email the principal since he took the time to tell you how close the decision was. Just ask for some feedback as to how you can improve.

I'm sorry I would ask, what do you have to lose?? Thank him kindly for the personal note and express your disappointment, and also let him know you will be looking for new openings there. I would then ask what you could strengthen in future applications that would give you the edge the other candidate seemed to have. Or something like that

It doesn't hurt to ask, and also ask him to keep you in mind if any new positions open up.
