This is the 5th time I've used Lazy Girl Designs Lexi Carryall (scroll about halfway down the page) pattern. It's a pricey pattern, but per use is now $3.59.

There is a quilting fabric store in the next county that I occasionally go to (before Covid) to touch and drool over their fabrics. They are pricey and nothing you could find at JoAnn's. This store had a 40% off all fabrics on Valentines Day this year so that's when I got the two fabrics for this bag.

Funny story: I was looking for 2 fabrics that would coordinate color-wise and wanted something brighter for summer. I found the primary outer fabric first and thought it was just swirls. I had both fabrics cut out and made my purchase. When I got home and took a look at the receipt, one of the fabrics was called shark. Huh? Wouldn't you know, some of those swirls are the outline of sharks.

I didnít notice the sharks swirling around either! It turned out very nice. I know what you mean about getting fabric from places other than JoAnnís. There is a difference in quality

Do you ever sell your purses? My aunt carries a purse like this. Not this color, but I think she would like this style of purse. She likes a washable material too.

I really have not considered selling because people wouldn't want to pay for my skill/time/etc. This purse (from measuring and marking and cutting the pieces to completing the attachment of the strap) takes me 7.5 hours to complete. If I only charged $10/hr (and I'm worth more than that ), there's $75. I don't believe I've ever paid $75 for a purse. (It's different when I'm spending time making it for myself.) In addition to fabric, special order zipper and ring & buckle hardware, it's getting close to $100 - for a cotton purse. Not to mention, Lazy Girl Design patterns have this statement: Items cannot be made for sale from this pattern.

special order zipper
I noticed the zipper right away and wondered where you found a zipper with such a wide zipper tape. Where did you order the zipper?

BTW, I love this little crossover purse. I am going to check out the website.
I love batiks and I love blue batiks.
I did not notice the sharks until you pointed them out.
Who knew?

Thank you for sharing all your creations. I love looking at your creations.
My card making has been put on hold while I sew masks, doll clothes and another quilt that I started this week.

Special order

The pattern recommends a 30" purse zipper. This is not something I can find at JoAnn's. It has larger teeth, wider tape and 2 large pulls that meet in the middle. Directions describe how to measure and cut the zipper into two lengths. I safety pin the loose ends together to keep from accidentally sliding the pull off the loose end. (Go ahead - ask me why I use the safety pin now. ) They are large enough that I don't even have to switch to a zipper foot for this project. I have purchased zippers from both Zipperstop on Etsy and byAnnie.com.

You can get D-rings and slide at JoAnn's but not like what is pictured on the pattern. I contacted the designer at Lazy Girl Designs and she pointed me to QuiltTrends on Etsy and I've ordered the rings and slider from them twice now. Luckily, I ordered back in February when I bought the fabric because I do NOT see the hardware available now. It might be because of all the Covid-19 stuff going on (working, ordering, availability, etc.).

Thanks for all the zipper info.
I had know idea there was such a thing as "purse zippers".
I love all the colours in the picture you posted.
I am going to search for a Canadian source.

BTW, did you know Missouri Star Quilt Company has bought Nancy's Notions?
Two of my favourite sources for sewing "professional development".

I cropped the picture of zippers from Zipperstop. Not my photo.

I figured Nancy's Notions would have been sold to some company.

I never considered keeping track of the Sewing With Nancy episodes I watched to count as PD. Now you tell me!!

Especially love the workmanship. Very talented. I would be fearful of washing even on gentle cycle!

I have no problem throwing these in the washer and dryer. I touch up with the iron on the outside and they are good to go!
