My district is going virtual for the first marking period!

So this is a happy vent. Last night I got board approved for my position and the board approved Sup's plan to go back virtually for at least the first marking period. I feel like the right call was made and the safety of everyone was taken seriously. We will be re-evaluating in November to see what the next move will be. While I'm sad that this is my first year at the district and I will be meeting colleagues and students online, I'm very relieved the safest decision was made.

Iím glad your district is using common sense. Have you heard anything about how the district will handle your class if you become sick? Are they going to have virtual subs? Would your class join another virtual class until you got better?

Unfortunately I don't have that info yet. I'm a learning support teacher doing both push in and pull out. I don't have my caseload yet, but I anticipate at least 15 students. So I would assume that my caseload would be distributed among other learning support teachers for pull out sessions and someone would need to handle pushing into classes as well as paperwork.

that my district would call it for a minimum amount of time. We're starting virtual with "go back as soon as allowed."

I'm hoping to be able to do that as well.

Although I just finished reading a vent where everyone was against that. While I agree that it is not the best case scenario, I do believe it is the safest right now. Our numbers are going up daily, and I can't imagine how horrible it will be if kids are taking the virus home to grandparents or other family members whose immune systems might be compromised. I have talked to my principal about doing remote learning. I told him that I know there are parents who will be afraid to send there kids, and will need an alternative. I have told him that I would like to teach those kids, and even though it is not the best case, I will do everything in my power to make this work for the kids in my class. I will make it work for them.
Good luck with your class. I want to hear how it goes for you.
