I knew it was too good to be true. I just got an email saying that school employees will probably have to return some of the payment that was given over the summer due to the fact that schools are not in session in the summer. Good thing I kind of figured this would happen and I set it into a savings account to earn a little bit of interest while I still have it.

Key words are 'probably' and 'some.' Let us know if you receive definite demand for repayment.

Was email directly from EDD pa.gov?

I hate words like "probably," "some," and "relatively," "possibly.". All it does is cause anxiety. I hear it in press conferences, all the time, and my mind has learned to just ignore whatever they said.

It means pretty much nothing, to me.

Why didn't they just wait until they knew for sure? Very frustrating.

And why is it our fault that they didn't think of that earlier. It isn't like it's a secret that schools are out for the summer.

What's frustrating is that one of the districts where I sub has outsourced subs, bus drivers, and food service workers. But only the subs get "reasonable assurance letters" and can't collect unemployment. The bus drivers and food service workers don't and are able to collect unemployment.

I don’t see what grounds they would have to take it back if they gave it to after analyzing your case. It’s not fraud on your part. If they came at me with that, I’d say sue me and I’d get a lawyer. They cut off my payments and I had a hearing about it and an adjudicator ruled in my favor. If they want to backtrack, they can take me to court.

Maybe because subs can work however much they want. The others might be on a contract?

Unless they actually overpaid the amount you were initially entitled for unemployment, I would not return a dime to them! You will have the right to challenge and appeal this through regular mail. Hold on to the money as long as you can.
