There is currently a commercial on TV which shows photographs that retirees took of the sunrise on their first day of retirement. What do you consider to be your first day of retirement - the first day following your last day of school OR the first day of the next school year?

I need to know when to set my alarm!!!

Last day of school was summer vacation. First day of school where I was not going to be was the first day of retirement for me!

I have always thought that the day after the last day of school was my first day of retirement. I never had to worry about looking for new ideas over the summer.

I never felt retired until the other teachers had to report and I could continue my summer. So the first day teachers had to report has my vote, but no alarm for me!

I thought of the day after the last day of school as my first day of retirement. Truthfully, though, I didn't feel *officially* retired until the first day of school this year! It began to sink in as I talked to friends who were going back to the dreaded inservices before the kids came.

I thought the point of retiring is that we don't have to do sunrise!!

The day that FELT like retirement for me was the first day that teachers had to report to school. They were working and I was NOT! It still feels good!

Retirement at long last!

I would say when the teachers had to go for preplanning!!!!!!!!!!! That is when I knew I was really retired. Summer is the end of our year of school. So the first day of school with all the school back to school ads was my feeling of officially being retired!!!!!!!!!!!!

I considered my first sunset of my retirement on the first Monday after school let out this year! We were up at Lake Texoma and I did take a picture of the sunrise from our sailboat. Great memory!

Beautiful picture, Kate26. It looks so peaceful!

Broomrider - You are correct. You don't have to do sunrise anymore. If you choose to however, you can always go back to bed afterwards!!!

Here's a link to the commercial.
