Pencil Q

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I teach grade 2 and I am thinking that for next year I would like to try pencils that do not have erasers. It's not the erasers that cause me angst, but the metal piece that holds the eraser onto the pencil. Students like to stick them in the pencil sharpener, or pick at them until they have a sharp edge, or the eraser is simply too small, but they try anyways and rip their papers. I know that the primary pencils don't have them, but I want regular sized ones. Does anyone use pencils like this, or know where I can get them? Thanks!

No worries in my class. The first thing they do with new pencils by the end of the day is to pull the eraser out and smash the metal part.

Which works for me because I don't let them erase in writers workshop!

them in two sizes. They have them on Office Max/Office Depot's web page so I guess you could get them at their store. Don't know if that will help or not. They have them on Amazon too, I think.

If they are like mine they will sharpen both ends and then stab them selves in the eye.. Pencils are the bane of my existence.

You can pull the eraser and the metal part off with a pliers. My own kids had an art teacher that did that. Made them think before they put pencil to paper!

You could just use golf pencils.
