Comprehension Help for Middle School

Clip to ScrapBook #1

This is my first year teaching 7 and 8 Language Arts. We have split the grades into Advanced Reading and Regular Reading. I have the Regular Reading group.

They seem to really struggle with understanding the story. We do comprehension questions that are taken from the test...but then they do poorly on the test. (I am re-thinking the test that comes with the book...may start creating my own tests!)

I am in desperate need of ideas of how to help students understand what they are reading. PLEASE HELP!

TIA

Have them act out a scene

If you stop the reading every few paragraphs and have volunteers act out the scene , you will motivate students and help with comprehension!
