I know it's the beginning of the school year and we're in the middle of pandemic, but I refuse to take a Floater, TA or 1:1 aide job.

Been there, done that, have the t-shirt.

Looks like this "booming job market" doesn't apply to all.

Not certain a "1:1" job is such a great idea during this era of social distancing.

Sadly, if it continues this way, I may just quit the education field altogether. And I've been teaching since 2004.

Speech therapist. Ummmm, no. Normally Id take the job, but even though there are social distancing precautions, I know the kids. High school, mostly special needs. Not happening.

Good idea. Probably pays better and you wouldn't have to deal with so much confusion AKA lack of any communication.

I'm considering just retiring. I'm on the younger side, but this is just ridiculous.

Yeah, that could be a doozy of a job.

I keep receiving spam calls to be a "school monitor."

No thanks, I'm good.

Tomorrow is Day 2 of school for one of my districts and surprisingly zero jobs available yet. I am surprised because they told us they were desperate for subs this year. My guess is that they personally hired some long term subs and don't have any single day openings yet.

At least I start a long term assignment on Monday for another district.

Yeah, wouldn't be surprised if they called around trying to recruit.

I was getting spam calls for school monitor positions.

Much luck on the long term job by the way.

And don't forget: Big brother is watching us now. Protect yourself.

I think I would wait until school has been going on for a couple of weeks to get the bugs out before I even considered taking an online job.

Pray for a vaccine.

I applied for unemployment even though school's back in session. HR contacted me about a week later, first word I've heard from them since March, to tell me about this litany of training for virtual subbing that I need to do. Training they never emailed me about or told me about at all until now. And if I'm being honest, I just don't even care to do it. Unemployment pay, literal welfare, paid me more than I ever made subbing. Even without the CARES act, I basically break even. Yet now I'm expected to be super enthusiastic about hopping back into this job that pays less than retail so I can get like one job call a month and maybe even get sick since they want us to show up in person to sit in an empty room and use a dirty school supplied laptop. Uhh... no thanks, lmao.

Like, what kind of joke is this. Literal welfare paid more. We're in such a weird spot because we're technically "employed" but our "employment" consists of sitting around hoping we'll get a job call and then nothing comes for a week and we just made 0 dollars woohoo! I get one job call a month and the details are nonexistent, so yeah, no, I'm not accepting that. Nobody would.

The person talking about working at Target is spot on; at least you'll get paid! And you'll even have an idea of what's expected of you each day! What a concept! Might even have some kind of overtime or hazard pay, if it's anything like my friend working at home depot right now. And if they suddenly don't need you, they'll just fire you and let you collect unemployment, instead of sending you love letters in the summer to get in the way of you receiving aid so they can effectively not-hire you again in the fall anyway.
