Oven French toast recipe?

My son's birthday is today. We are having brunch together tomorrow morning. I want to make French toast, mostly because it's a brunch dish that can easily be made vegan for dd. I will cook hers in a pan on the stove top, but for the other four or five of us I thought I could make it in the oven so I'm not cooking the entire time. There are tons of recipes on line. Many seem to have a ton of sugar in the batter, but some do not. I would rather not have too much sugar, unless it makes a big difference in how the toast browns...

Have you ever made French toast in the oven? Do you have a good recipe?

I have real maple syrup (of course) and berries to go on the French toast, and will pick up some local bacon at the farmer's market this morning...just hoping to find a simple fool-proof, and delicious, recipe for French toast in the oven.

Thanks!

I made this for a brunch I hosted last month. If you still have that box of panettone sitting around... I put it together the night before.

I've made Ree Drummond's recipe, it was pretty good.

I only do my French toast in the oven. It's a bit drier, but that is why I love it. The last time I had French toast that was made the traditional way it was too rich for me.
