I am about to attempt to install a modem and router. I bought one so I donít have to continue to pay rental fees from Comcast. Should pay for itself in a year, if I am capable of installing it myself...

I bought one from Best Buy and installed it myself. We have cox cable and I called and someone walked me through the whole process. If you get stuck, call them!

Success! (mostly...)

Spent an hour on the phone with the Comcast guy. I now have internet and tv, but the modem does not have a port for my phone jack.

I can get phone messages on my email, and make calls from my iPad, but the regular telephones don't work because nowhere to plug them in...

A Comcast guy is coming to my house on Monday...maybe he will have a suggestion. I could go with just my cell phone and give up the VOIP number (and probably save more $$$ on my comcast bill), but I have had this former land line number forever, and everyone can remember it. And I prefer not to get calls when I am out and about (unless it's a family member with a dire emergency), so I don't want to do that if I can avoid it.
