100th Day

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Hello everyone! It's hard to believe that we are already to the 100th day of school; this year seems to have flown by! I am curious what others to with their 4th graders for the 100th day. This year I am trying to focus more on writing, so we are going to write about what we think the world will be like when we are 100 years old. I am interested to hear what other much more creative teachers do. Thanks!!

Interesting. In 22 years I've never done anything for the 100th day. I'm not sure when it falls. I'll have to figure it out. My guess is we are about 2.5 weeks away yet.

I've only seen 100th day activities up to 3rd grade. Putting 100 things in a baggie to bring in. Drawing a picture of themselves at age 100.

You could find out what life was like exactly 100 years ago. What happened on that day in history? What was "popular"? What did the newspaper say?

While I think it sounds interesting and fun, in all my years of teaching, we've never celebrated in 4th since our curriculum is jam packed and this time of year getting ready for testing, etc...

I like the history aspect and thinking and researching life 100 years ago! I think our 3rd grade used to do that.

Same here....been in 4th grade for 25 years and have never once done 100th day. K and 1st do a big deal with it, but that's it. I couldn't even tell you when it is, lol!

I have 100 math problems at the board when the children arrive...pretty funny to see their reaction! I also take a picture of each child using the photo booth that ages them. Then they write about their life at 100 years of age.

1) Roll a die 100 times. Predict what number you will roll most often. How many times will you roll it? Make a chart with your findings.
2) Prediction: Start with some rice, beans, nuts, or seeds. Grab a bunch that you think is 100. Then count to see how close you get.
3) Spending: Imagine what you would buy with 100 pennies. Imagine what you would buy with 100 nickels. Imagine what you would buy with 100 dimes. Imagine what you would
buy with 100 quarters. Imagine what you would buy with 100 dollars.
4) Measurement: Measure 100 inches. Find something that is 100 inches long. Measure 100 centimeters. Find something that is 100 centimeters long. Measure 100 grams. Use a scale to find things that have a mass of about 100 grams. Measure 100 miles. Use a map to find a place that is 100 miles from your home. Measure 100 seconds using a stopwatch or a clock. Ask a friend to start timing. Say stop when you think 100 seconds have passed. How close were you?
5) Science: Melt 100 ice cubes in a large clear container. Mark a line that shows where you think the water will be when they're melted.
6) Writing: Write a sentence or a poem with exactly 100 letters.
7) Reading: Hold a Read-a-Thon with your classmates. How many days will it take you to read 100 books?
8) Math: Find one hundred ways to add, multiply, subtract, or divide numbers to reach 100.
