Why stay?

Im attending a two-day session for reviewing test questions for the state education department and Pearson. They provide hotel accommodations at the meeting site for anyone driving from more than 40 miles away from the site.

Ive had several people ask me why Im taking a room. Umm . . . why not? Free room? Dont have to drive almost 50 miles in rush-hour traffic in the big city? Get to sleep later? Have two free evenings to visit with a friend who lives in the city? Im all over it.

I did it for 3 days a few years ago. The hotel they had for us was actually a resort with an indoor water park, 2 outdoor waterparks, etc. Unfortunately, our day was 8:00-4:30 every day and by the time I was done, I was to exhausted and my brain was too fried to want to do anything! Every night, I ended up getting dinner and then heading back to the hotel to put on my pjs, watch tv, and curl up in the comfy bed!

I can't believe anyone would question this decision! You would be crazy not to enjoy one of the few perks that ever come along with the job!

Clearly, these are not close friends. Anyone should know if you give a teacher the choice to run away from home for a night, wed do it in a heartbeat. At least I would.

Your reasoning makes sense, but last year I was voluntold to go to a conference that was about 70 minutes away. I was really hemming and hawing about taking the hotel room because I'd honestly rather just sleep in my own bed and hang out with my cat. I already live alone so I don't need any me time and it wasn't a super nice hotel or anything or a town where there was anything to do. I ended up taking the hotel just because of the fact that I would have had to get up so early in the morning to drive the 70 minutes in traffic, but I was resentful that I had to go.

To me it's a no-brainer! I'd definitely stay versus driving that distance if I didn't have to and it was free. If you had responsibilities at home you couldn't get out of or people/animals who relied on you to care for them that might be different. But if your dh can care for the animals, a night away can be fun!

If I had a free hotel room at the corner of my street, I'd take it. Have a great time and you're a better woman than I for reviewing test questions, which sounds like, well, not a fun time.
