Continuing the small town story...

If you noticed in my small town post below, the ladies wanted me to ask GF to join so we could have a male perspective in the group. (How they knew GF even exists is the small town part ). It would take a pretty special kind of guy to join, given that almost everyone in the book discussion group is also part of two different knitting circles. We see each other multiple times during the week, tutor each other's kids, pet sit for one another, etc. It's a very inbred group...

So I asked GF if he would like to join. He said sure, he likes to read and discuss. I warned him about the group. He said, "I'm a retired nurse. I'm used to being the only guy."

We are reading Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders. I had to look up the word "bardo". He did not.

He is shaping up to be an interesting friend!

I'm happy that your GF is willing to step into a group of women like that! It sounds like he's going to have lots to add to the discussions.

I used to belong to a quilting group (in my small town). There were 50 some women who met and talked quilts. One night a woman brought her new GF. He knew nothing about quilts. He decided that it was something he'd like to try, and was soon creating some of the most interesting and artistic quilts I'd ever seen.

I belong to two. One is with teachers who rarely discuss the book. The other is at the local library where there are usually at least three or four men. They always add a great perspective. And the librarian keeps us talking about the book. I love this group!!

Knowing that teachers maintain there is no such thing as a dumb question, is GF your Grandfather? (I'm using my context clues skills to figure the meaning of the abbreviation.)

GF stands for gentleman friend in this case. She mentioned it a few posts ago. It might be her own creation.
