Mammograms?

A response to another post caught me by surprise and has me wondering. Do some locations really have male techs? I seriously am flabbergasted! Our centers employ only females and I thought that would be common practice.

Yeah, I knew about that and will always request a LADY. I think my location does have men doing the job though. I could NOT have a man do that to me, I don't care if you paid me $1000!

Although my ob/gyn and urologist are males and it never bothered me, a male mammogram tech would.

I have all females but once had to have a sonogram and was asked if a male was ok. I said it was fine, just wanted results. Which was positive! Did not care who was conducting the test!

Males and Females

My breast center has female staff members who administer mammograms. However, I had a radiology tech who is male when I underwent radiation treatments for breast cancer. My oncologist is a man.

I'm used to male medical professionals seeing and touching my breasts. It doesn't make me uncomfortable anymore.

I've had mammos at four facilities (don't ask) and have only had female techs. My radiation tech for my breast cancer treatment was a male. Didn't bother me in the least ...could be that by the time I had radiation, it felt like one thousand drs, nurses, & techs had seen my breasts by then.

I think that despite all the viewing of my breasts due to my cancer, I do think I'd be bothered by a male's adminstration of a mammo. I say that because I have sense breasts and the always take a ton of pics and are constantly repositioning me.

Iíve only ever seen female techs at our BreastScreen centres. I think it might be policy, but I wouldnít swear to it.

My surgeon and the radiation oncologist are male, the medical oncologist is female. The one I donít like as much is the woman; sheís highly recommended on the techy stuff and Iím lucky to have her, but her people skills are lacking. If she was in my class Iíd suspect she was on the spectrum.

them a lot more. Depends on the tech, though. I wonder if the male techs would also tell me their life stories and romance dramas while handling my girls.

Which reminds me, there was an open house at one of the larger farms around here a week or so ago. Of course, we went. They had this carousel that holds about 50 cows at once. By the time they get it and it goes around once (8 minutes), the cow is milked. As the cow first comes on, one worker washes her teats and the next one dries them off. I thought, "I'm so happy I don't have either of those jobs."

See how my mind works, though.

I'm not old enough for those yet but I do know my mom has almost always had males doing her screenings.

I truly wouldn't care. He's doing a job. As long as he does his job properly, I would be ok.

Only females

Iíve only ever seen female mammo techs. As difficult as it is to get some women to come in for a mammogram, I would think a male would result in even fewer coming in. I know I would be extremely uncomfortable with a male tech.

I honestly can't remember if I've had any male mammo techs. I've had so many I feel like I must have at some point But I feel the same as Nucleus, as long as the person is professional I don't care.

My 12 year old granddaughter had a pelvic ultrasound recently and I know they specifically had a woman do it because we had to change locations for that reason.

Mammograms have always been done by a female tech.

By the time I got to ultrasound, then ultrasound biopsies, I had male techs and Drs. At that point, I was beyond caring who saw what. As long as the breast center said they were qualified, I was satisfied I was getting good treatment.

I've had mammograms for over 15 years and have never had a male. I do go to the women's center at the hospital. I know a male reads them.
