Hiding in my home...

I am sitting here in semi-darkness hiding from the trick-or-treaters. I can hear the car doors and the laughter, but DH is out of town and I just don't feel comfortable opening my door to a bunch of strangers tonight. We always get lots of teens/adults (usually with no costumes) and that makes me a little extra cautious. I just hope they will all take the hint and stay off my porch!!

Still light here, but the lights will be off soon. I did unplug my porch light already.

We have a party to go to and my son is in the marching band at a football game tonight, so I warned my class I wouldn't be home, but will leave a giant bowl of candy on the porch.

I get it. We avoided Halloween and went out to dinner.

Iím hiding too. It would have made more sense to go somewhere, may be dinner and a movie, but I wonít leave my pets home alone on Halloween.

We live on a dead end street with 14 houses. There are about a dozen kids who live on our street, including my 2 granddaughters. We always have a block party. We rented a bouncy house and popcorn machine. We had fire pits and outdoor heaters. We roasted hot dogs, made nachos, decorated cookies and cupcakes, had a hay ride and a piŮata. We had so much fun! But this Granny is tired.

We had rain, problem solved!

Now, what to do with a large bowl of candy?

I'll be hiding as soon as my cute neighbor kids come by. I bought cookies for them, and everyone else gets a box of little tattoos. My DH is out of town, too, and I don't like answering the door once it gets dark.

We had snow. Not much, but real snow. Total number of kids who came: 4. I miss seeing the little ones and the clever costumes.

I have the opposite problem. I live in a very conservative area and most parents do not allow their kids to celebrate halloween. When I was teaching, we were low key. The kids came to school in costumes. We had a 10-15 minute parade around the playground and then the costumes came off and it was a normal day. Still many parents kept their kids home on Halloween. We could count on at least 30% absent.

I haven't had a single trick or treater for at least 8 years. When I first moved to my home we went all out and turned our yard into a haunted house. The only attendees were my dd friends (Catholic - we definitely celebrate Halloween) I have more Halloween decorations than Christmas decorations. All packed away.

I thought I was the only one! I gave myself a pedicure, filled out my ballot, and paid some bills. Now I'm watching tv in the dark.
