Update on new job

Thank you everyone for the kind words regarding me finding a new job after being somewhat semi-retired for a couple of years.

It is going ok. It is definitely different than teaching band and piano lessons, and theatre and music classes.

I work in a resource room in the morning. There are only three kindergarten students in there. Smart kids with slight speech delays and sensory issues.

Since the program is new, the teacher is open to me bringing in teaching music lessons. The kids donít usually make it to the regular music class because the change in environment sometimes upsets them and they melt down. I think there is a lot of potential to do some great things for those kids.

The afternoons are a little boring because my only job is to sit outside of whatever classroom a specific students is in who has a tendency to run away. He has safe spots throughout the building he can go to. I need to make sure he stays in the building. I do this for about 9 hours a week so it isnít that bad.

I am continuing to search for higher paid positions. If I am here until the end of the school year, I will do a new search in the summer.

We still may try to put our house back on the market next summer unless I find a higher paying job. Then we will stay.

Thanks for the update.
It is wonderful that you can bring music into resource room programming.

I am so glad you are doing music with them! That is one of the best things you can do with any special needs kids, but most especially those who have speech and language delays!

Specials really can be a hard thing for some students. One that I am with struggles with specials. Music is easier but class Dynamics often make even music unbearable so we often wind up in the sensory room. I wished we had another option. I am not musical so I cannot contribute to such things. I feel it is very nice that you can. It makes a difference.
