"Covering"

I know that I'm not the only one feeling the pressure right now. We're in the fourth week of school and all I do is "cover". Every time that I turn around, another new thing is added to our schedule and it's forcing me to figure out, "What is important and what can I cut?"

I'm not really looking for advice - but just to hear that others are feeling this way as well. I hope it's not just me. I'm in my fifth year of teaching. Management is getting easier - but does the "horse race" feeling ever go away?

That is one of the things I hate the most- feeling like all I'm doing most of the time is checking boxes. It's especially frustrating now, at the beginning of the year, because I never make it through everything I plan/need to teach in a day.

I also completely agree....it is so difficult to get through our curriculum each day...I truly dislike that "trying to stay afloat" feeling.

I have taught many years and I'm still treading water! It seems to be getting worse instead of better! I do agree that it helps to know I'm not alone!

I am in agreement. I feel like it's basically trying to fit some instruction time in between all of the paperwork, assessments, etc.

Does anyone ever get the feeling that teaching is secondary to getting good grades 'for your school'?

Can I tell you that I am already behind in curriculum? IT'S THE 4th WEEK OF SCHOOL!!!!!

At our school we have:
1. Problem Based Learning
2. Clubs
3. Service Learning
4. Spirit Assemblies
5. Many holidays- to be celebrated during the school day
6. Curriculum?

It's all a bit much, but every year they want to add more

I too am feeling the same way! With a two year at home I can no longer bring home hours of work like I used to. I'm so tired I need to go to bed after he does to keep myself from being totally worn down! My husband is out of the country for two weeks during the most stressful time of year for me. My desk at work is never clean as papers from school, kids, home pile up! My organized desk is under all the papers somewhere. I literally only sit down when I am teaching a small reading group or eating lunch as we planning at the same time as a grade level. Thankfully we have a great team in 2nd grade and shut our doors and vent to each other.
