My grade level will be receiving iPads for first graders next week. Should have about 5 per class. I'm feeling grateful! Not sure I'm thrilled with the apps our tech. specialist has loaded so far. Can you please tell which apps you use for first grade? Thanks so much.

We've had our ipads a week and these are the apps my 1st graders like or I find helpful:

1. Puppet Pals (create movies using puppet characters)
2. ShowMe (create tutorials that you can post online)
3. Math vs. Zombies (fun math game!)
4. Storia (Scholastic's book app)
5. Socrative (electronic response system)
6. Red Laser (QR code scanner)
7. itubelist (create youtube playlists you want them to see, filters out the garbage)
8. Endless ABC (beautiful graphics)
9. Spelling City
10. Digital book apps like: Toy Story, Ice Age, Miss Spider's Tea Party...etc.
11. Lots of free ebooks from the publisher Grasshopper Apps

Coming back to say I found another free app today that I love called Number Pieces! It's base ten blocks for the ipad. Students can use this app while you're teaching a whole group lesson.

...and another one: the app Splashtop 2 allows me to control my computer (and therefore my Smartboard) from my ipad. I will be able to walk around the room with the ipad to allow students to write on the smartboard without them getting out of their seats.

For math I like Sushi Monter, Kinder Math (great for <, >), Bugbrained Phonic Awareness (app looks like a caterpillar), Fast Fact addition and subtraction, Fit Brains Trainer, Book Creator (it's a pd app where students can insert texts, Picts, video to create a report or presentation. I like Book Magic, too.
What are you finding useful?

Aps for Primary

I use Spelling City and the pearson language ap. They love them both. There are a few great phonics ones out there. The trick is to try out the free ones first. If you like them then ask the school to make the investment for the others. I love the Puppet Pals ap. This is great for adding a little theater into the classroom plus they have fun with it.
