Are your paraprofessionals asked to do lunch and recess duty for regular ed. students? Even when I have an aide out they still think it can be done. I have 9 students of varying levels and disabilities. Some are runners and climbers. This is also during our own lunch rotation.

In my previous district the schools did this.

I too thought it was unfair that the aides be responsible for my high-needs students AND 90 other kids. I too had runners and violent students.

Special ed in that situation was also done in a cooperative and the aids were technically NOT district employees and were not paid by the district or under the district's insurance.

We had many substitute aids flip out and not return when they were told they had do recess supervision.

Yes, that happens here. My para typically doesn't have the same amount of duties as other paras, but she does have some. She also gets pulled to cover duties for absent paras, which happens almost daily.

I canít win this fight and if someone is absent then we have to rearrange schedules and thatís when we really donít have time to look at schedules or aides to spare. Itís exhausting, and frustrating.
