Hi guys...I know you all are doing readers workshop and I really want to do readers workshop. I love the Miller and Collins and feel like a lot of their strategies is what is missing from my reading instruction. My district is a CELL/EXCELL school and I know most of the components are them same. Okay...my question is what do you do about guided reading if you are doing readers workshop? Have any of you done CELL(balanced literacy and then switched to doing readers workshop? What have you had the most success with? Do you know of any research/articles that support readers workshop? Any experiences, suggestions, input etc. would be greatly appreciated!!!

I've never heard of CELL, so I can't speak to that, but I do guided reading during Reader's workshop. Since starting reader's workshop, I've loosened my grip on how often guided reading needs to be done. Every year I see way more progress in workshop than as a result of guided reading. I meet with my lower readers more in guided reading and my middle and higher readers once a week. Every day while the kids are reading at reader's workshop, I either do: individual conferences and one guided reading group OR 2 guided reading groups.

How long do you do guided reading for with each group?
