Going rate for tutors?

Do any of you tutor over the sumer? If so, how much do you charge per hour? I'd like to start tutoring (I'm on an extended maternity leave). I saw an ad for a high school student tutor and he charged $35/hour. As a certified, experienced teacher, I figure I can get more than that. Thoughts?

Where I live, teachers charge anywhere between 70 and 125 bucks. Very good money!

Depending on their economic situation, I charge between 30- 60 per child. I do have friends who do charge 80.00 per child without any complaints.

I live in southwestern PA and charge $30/hour. I have 2 years exp and a MS degree. I do charge less if I know the family doesn't have a lot of money.

I didn't realize some teachers were getting that much for tutoring!!

Is this the going rate for young children like 1st grade. I need a tutor for my son who is behind in reading and spelling I am trying to help him catch up and not get more behind. Most of the pricing I've seen is for high school aged students.
