Can someone explain how RW looks in a 1st grade classroom? I have heard a lot about RW and am interested in trying it out.

Went to Teachers College this summer, and I took a lot of notes on Readers Workshop... I teach 1st, so that's where my slant leans

What a great site! I will have to look at it in greater detail. I'm not sure that we are going to switch to the Readers Workshop model yet. We do have Writers Workshop, but we have Guided Reading and centers. What kind of system do you use for your check out in your classroom library? Thanks!

For my personal books, I have used many:
student sign out
library pockets
post it reminders
teacher recordings

What I ended up with : The Honor System I don't have many books unaccounted for at the end of the year. Yes, I do have some parents that will come to school that last week with an armfull of coveted books their child has enjoyed My experience is these are often the kids that need it the most!

For literacy library books (leveled books owned by the school and used for guided reading/shared reading), I record these at each guided reading session and check them in when I meet with each group the next time.
