I am new to thrid grade (left 1st grade). Does anyone have any suggestions on decoding strategies that should be taught to 3rd graders?

I know this message is quite late, but I've just become active in reading and posting a little bit. Coming from fourth, now in first I see a great need in kids knowing how to locate word parts (chunking). In third and fourth your big goal is comprehension so you don't have a lot of time to spend on decoding. The text is much too long and the kids will run out of stamina. Being able to quickly break a word into parts they know would be most helpful. Have them learn grade level appropriate prefixes, suffixes, get them to quickly find the root word. For extreme cases you might have to pull some first grade strategies out of your hat. I hope you get this and I hope it's not totally too late.
