Books I Should Read??

Clip to ScrapBook #1

So, I read The Book Whisperer this summer and plan to implement book commercials instead of book reports. I know I will have to show the first few before they get the hang of it but it's been a while since I read children's books for fun. I'm out of the loop on what I should be reading for fourth grade (previously was teaching first), any suggestions? I have a giant classroom library at school that is appropriate for fourth graders however I can't get there for another 2-3 weeks. I'd like to read at least 2-3 books that I can recommend in the beginning to show them what it's like.

Thanks for your help!

I know you are overwhelmed with book titles, but I've got to add one more! The Wayside School series by Louis Sachar. I tried to read them when I was with second grade and the humor went right over their heads, but my fourth graders love it! I have to explain a few of the terms because it was written some time ago, but we have a really great time with it. It's the only book that my students actually beg me to keep going and get upset if I miss a day reading.

That being said, I don't know what book commercials are and how well this series would go with them. Could you explain what that is? Or maybe I should just read The Book Whisperer?

Thanks for all the recommendations, I will pick some up!

Book Commercials are pretty much a book recommendation but orally presented to the class. Students finish a book and give a synopsis without a spoiler as well as if they liked or didn't like it. The concept is that children will take a recommendation of a book they may not normally have picked up because a friend (or teacher) recommended it. It's a great way to expose students to genres they tend to stay away from.

I do recommend reading The Book Whisperer, I am going to change a few things this year because of it.
