I'm new to 4th grade...I'm working on my classroom library. Do i just need to have chapter books or can i put in some picture books? If so, what is the lowest level of picture book that I would need to put in my library? Thank you for your help : )

4th grade is so different from Kindergarten!!!

I have some picture books in my classroom library. You may have kiddoes that are at lower levels. Have you considered leveling your library? I know that is a lot to do right before school starts. If you went by the guided reading level, fountas and pinnell (sp?), or lexile, you would probably have a better idea of exactly what you have for your students. Good luck in fourth grade! You will love it!

I have easy chapter books at second grade level, up to chapter books at sixth grade level. Most of the picture books are around3/4 level unless it has something to do with science. I try to find science readers at lower levels that don't seem too young, otherwise my lower readers won't pick them up to read out of possible embarrassment. Hope this helps!
