So, I came up with this GO to use with my students next week to teach the properties of special quads, and just had to explain it to my engineer husband. Is it that bad, or was he having a moment?

Thanks!

Totally makes sense to me! Most people forget that quadrilaterals have "overlapping" properties so it can get confusing.

I totally understand! Except I don't teach quadrangle so I wasn't clear on that- but I still was able to figure it out. I like it! Thanks for sharing!

And also, you can tell you husband maybe that he is not smarter that a "insert your grade here" er.

I call it the Polygon Family Tree since all polygons share SOME characteristics just like families do... Looks good. Quads are always confusing to students...whatever we can do to try to make it clear is great...you can't just give it to the students...you will need to explain it to them with examples...

Looks great to me. It will be a help to the students to be able to see how they are alike and different from each other. My students often have trouble between a rectangle and a parallelogram that is not a rectangle. They tend to think a rectangle is two long sides and two short sides. I have a hard time getting them to realize a rectangle has to have 4 right angles. Any one else have students with that problem?
