HELP!!! Demo lesson for Reader's Workshop

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Hi, I just got through the panel interview portion for a leave replacement position. Now I am up to the Demo lesson. Here is what I was told to do my lesson on: Reader's Workshop: Habits of Good Readers- I will be in a first grade class. I have been searching online and not finding anything great. Does anybody have a great lesson idea for this topic so that I can rock this part of the interview and get the job. Thank you.
Jen

See if you can find a copy of Kathy Collins' book Growing Readers. That should give you some good ideas.

for the unit that habits of good readers is in.
You should easily find what you need there.
The lesson plans are based on Kathy Collins book and were done by a PTer.

Lucy Calkins's book "The Art of Reading" has a chapter on the architecture of a mini-lesson.
This lesson consists of:

Connection (Do not lead with a question. "What did we learn yesterday?" Rather be very direct with prior learning or using an anecdote)
Teaching Point - (Watch me as I....)
Active Engagement (Kids try out the skill)
Link to Student Learning ("Today and everyday, you will try______)

Most effective lessons are done within approximately 8 minutes.
