My book just arrived (courtesy of the UPS man)! I would love to do a book club. When should we start? Should we say read a certain amount by the end of April or beginning of May so that everyone has a chance to get the book?

I'll discuss too!

A way that's worked for us in the past is for someone to just post a "chapter one" post and once it's discussed out, someone will post a chapter two one. That way, people can join in on the chapter they are on. But I do think we shouldn't post on chapter one for a bit-- a lot of people probably want the book.

I wrote early about whether it was a worthwhile book and someone said yes. I need to order it, but many of the other books mentioned: Miller, calkins, routman, taberski, avery and allingham I have read and liked so I think it would be a good idea for me also. I find the staff at my school, not so open to these methods. I need all the support I can get!
Tonya S.

Is there another way to access the book besides ordering through amazon?

I would love to join you. I started the book recently, but don't always get back to it as I would like. You all would help to keep me focused. I feel like the kids this time of year! It is such an exciting time to be teaching with all of these resources...especially Proteacher!

I started the book last year, but my team did something new with reading this year and I had to revert back to another method. I am excited to learn more about the reader's workshop model!

I just started the book tonight (I'm on my Spring Break and finally had a moment of "quiet"). I have learned so much from this site...it has been so helpful to me as a first year teacher!

I haven't ordered my book yet b/c I have so many others to read. I can't really join in the book club till this summer probably.

I teach 4th grade in Phoenix, AZ...down to 27 students was at 29. It is 80% ELD (highest in the state within our district), I have 6 resource students (2 of which are MIMR), and one monolingual. My district and school is an urban area.

We get out of school the first week of June. I'll try to order the book and start reading it...but I am taking Masters courses and trying to read and do the homework for those classes, along with teaching. So we'll see.

I have also started reading the book and would like to join the discussion! Should we set a date to start discussing Chapter 1? (since BookMuncher suggested we start by discussing each chapter) Like maybe, we'll start discussing Chapter 1 on May 1st. That should give everyone the weekend to start reading. I'm already in the middle of Chapter 2 but am excited about this! What do y'all think?

I teach in Marysville, which is just south of Port Huron, at the base of the thumb. Where do you teach?

Yep...I finally have my copy on it's way. Barnes and Noble was out of it and I want my teacher discount, so I didn't order it online. But the store ordered it for me and said it should be here in about a week!
