Our school district is all about STEAM education this year. It seems like they are embracing it wholeheartedly. But our curriculum is scripted. I'm confused. How do you have STEAM and creativity while following a script?

The only difference in what my district has been doing for the last 30 years is now we are having the students keep a notebook, write a focus question and take notes. Actually, for most people, it's not any different. BUT SHHHHH, don't tell the public.

You're definitely telling the truth! It's really a shame.

Sad, but true. I think that the district's big concern is using the terminology since it's a pretty hot buzz word at the moment. If they can advertise that their schools are implementing STEAM ed into the curriculum, it sounds good to families as well as the general public.

But, yes, shhhhhh.....

We've been big on STEM and STEAM for years now. Our curriculums are scripted also. Stay in lockstep with everyone, but differentiate and do STEAM activities. Yeah, it doesn't mesh too well.

Oh, we even have a STEM coordinator now. Yep, one of those people who walks around all day holding his coffee cup and talking about sports. I don't think he has done a single thing, but it looks good on paper apparently.
