I prefer Thursday because it's the end of the week. Why do some principals insist on Tuesday?

I'm assuming your Back to School Night is the same as our Curriculum Night? All parents are invited and you discuss what you will teach that year.

We schedule ours on a Wednesday, because we have early release that day. Gives us more time to prep and we can leave a bit early to make up for being there after contract hours.

Plus, we dress up for Curriculum Night, so we need time to change out of jeans and slap some fresh make-up on!

Ours was on Thursday, but not an early release day for the first time ever. A lot of parents picked up.their children from after school care on campus and tried to get inside our rooms an hour early.

Our admin doesn't select the day, it's assigned by some committee at the district.

Our's is always the night before school starts, so it is Tuesday (last night!). School always starts the Wednesday before Labor Day for us. It is pretty informal and really just a meet and greet and drop off supplies.

PreK and K have a more formal curriculum night where they go over what they students will be learning that year.

I do not mind having it on Tuesday, it is just hard after two days of sitting in workshops and getting the classroom ready - we are exhausted! Quite a few teachers say through so they are at the school from 7:30 am to about 7pm. It is a long day right before a long day!

It needs to be on a Friday so we can go home and drink after meeting some of the parents.

I taught in a preK-12 school. Team Leaders (more like vice principals over each level elementary, MS, HS,) met on Monday. Teachers had meetings Tues. Wed. with some work time. Thursday was meet the teacher. Pre-K, K, and 1st were scheduled earliest, then elementary, meanwhile a computer set up time was offered to MS and HS, and then a parent meeting for MS and HS. Teachers had Friday off IF everything was ready to start with students on Monday.

Thankfully, we don't have back to school night! Whew!

We do 2 days of conferences at the beg. of the year. 20 min. with each child/family.

SO glad!

The official first day for teachers is the Tuesday after Labor Day. The day is packed with meetings. Open House/Back to School/Meet the Teacher is Tuesday night. Wednesday is another day of trainings and meetings for teachers. The students start on Thursday.

I'm so glad we don't have to dress up! In fact, this year we are making a kinder team tee so we're all just going to wear that and black pants or jeans. Yay!

Ours is before school starts. We try to make it 2 days before school starts, and school starts on a Thursday this year. Ergo, Tuesday night.

We have to dress up for ours big time! It is pretty formal and a lot of work. Most of us have some presentation, brochures, a sign-in sheet, and curriculum materials set up. I usually have a letter or something from students that they wrote for this night.

So we teach all day in the brutal, sticky heat. (NO AC) Then, go home and shower. Race back and try to get a parking spot in heels and a suit or dress. YUCK. It's really quite hectic and draining. It goes until about 9pm and then we have to teach again the next morning. I even slop on some mascara and then I look like a raccoon the next day because I can never get it off that night. I'm always glad when it is over.

Ours are on a Tuesday evening. They schedule the first PTA meeting immediately afterwards in the hopes of luring parents to come to the meeting since they are already in school. Makes for a loooong evening for teachers!

Ours is always 2 days before school starts. School started on a Friday this year, so we had it on Wed. I like the logic behind it. They don't want us worn out the night before the first day of school.

Ours is on Thursday, but it's so pointless because almost no one attends. We have a "meet the teacher/drop off supplies" night the day before school starts and almost everyone attends that. "Back to School Night" is two weeks after school starts, and I think most families don't see a point in going since they've already met their child's new teacher. It's typical to get 2-4 families per class. We ask every year why we still have this event!

I always tell parents, "This is probably the only time you'll see me not covered in glue, glitter, and boogers!"

Ours is always on Wed. Night. We have 4 elem. schools, a middle school and high school and any elem. event HAS to be on a Wed night (Open House, band/string concerts, grade level nights, etc). To avoid conflict with the upper schools. The middle school and high school also have nights, but with all their sports, they don't include those in the scheduling.

We have done ours every day Monday to Friday.

There are four schools in our district, so we have to coordinate so that they don't overlap. Days vary due to the changing dates of school beginning. This year is was August 1.

I'd love to do Friday night and top it off with a TGIF, then no school for the weekend.
