How do you cut cardboard?

There must be a better way to do this. How do you cut cardboard (not posterboard)to size for various activities? I want to cut out an life size outline of each student - but can't face doing this with a pair of scizzors. I've also needed to cut down boxes for the background for salt dough maps. Boy did my fingers hurt! So how do you do this?
