Math activities needed...Help!

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I have a few students who are working above grade level in math and I need something for them to do while I'm teaching a whole-class lesson. The other 26 kids need the lesson, these 4 don't...and so they're screwing around and bothering students who are trying to listen and focus (and me!).

So, I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas for silent activities they could be doing during this time to push them and keep them from being a distraction.

(BTW, we do math workshop format, so I do pull all students in small groups to work with them at their level, but I need something these kids can do independently and without talking during the class lesson)

TIA!

Don't know if you have computers in your room but I would think of having them try more challenging math games online. Also what about Study Island..do you have that?

Also, what about them teaching a small group of the kids who aren't getting it?

arcademicskillbuilders.com.
Great site for math that is set up in a race format (for all math operations) that gives feedback on accuracy and rate. You may need to pry the students off once they get started! It also has practice games for math review and Language Arts and Geography (that comes under Social Studies, right?) games.
You may want to try them yourself just in case your students want to see if they can beat your score!

Google "Webquests" and see what you can find! I've found quite a few online activities for my G/T kiddos that actually had them use critical thinking skills.
