When do sub jobs in your district start coming out in full force again? I was in a long-term sub aide position last year until the end of October. By then I was able to find daily sub jobs galore, but I'm interested to know when the pace starts picking up.

Aug/24 here. I'm guessing that I won't get any calls the first week, but probably a couple starting the 2nd week

I won't count on many teachers calling the first week but you never know. Here we have separate lunch and recess duty. Since I sub for that too I've already gotten called to sub for the third day of school. The earliest I've worked is the second day of school. I don't mind a quiet first week. This lets me enjoy a quiet house while my kids are at school.

I just got approved to sub in a large district for the first time. Our sub orientation isn't until the 26th. I figure they have plenty of subs on their lists to do the first week. We'll see what happens.

We have always been able to arrange for our own subs. This year we have teachers who are RIFed and by ed code, they are to be called to sub by seniority!

I'm wondering how many of us regular subs will see a reduction in assignments as a result of this.

Some districts haven't opened their lists.

Several school districts in my area (central CO) haven't re-opened their lists for this year. One school district will only take certified teachers for their district. I think there are a lot of teachers without jobs. I had to apply at a district 20 miles away and my orientation isn't until Aug 26. Not sure when the jobs will start flying in.

I got my first assignment yesterday for the first week of school - sighhhhhhhhh This year they are opening teacher's training to the subs free of charge but you don't get paid to be there - so I'll do that too in the next week. Usually I only do about 10 or 12 days the first month of school.

Our district doesn't go back until Sept 3rd. But that's only 2 weeks away!!! I can't believe summer's over and we are talking about going back already! I noticed that some people have already posted about their first day back! Ugh!!! I much prefer the end of year posts

Last year they never really got going in full force. Well, there were about 2 weeks in April or May when I was really busy, but that's about it. The job situation sucked for the whole year, and I'm worried that this year will be even worse.
