Amazing!

I had cataract surgery on my left eye yesterday.

I have been severely nearsighted my entire life. My vision is worse than 20/200, but correctable to 20/20 with glasses.

For example, without glasses, the weather map on the TV just looks like a brightly colored blob.

But since the surgery, if I cover my right eye, I can easily read the town names and the temperatures on the map! Itís awesome!

I canít wait till I get the other eye done three weeks from now! Iíll be able to throw out my $500 glasses with bifocals and prisms, and trade them in for some dimestore reading specs.

Cataract surgery is a miracle! I couldn't believe how well I could see the next day! I could get along with just reading glasses but I got quickly annoyed by all the on and off I was doing and went back to fulltime glasses with correction only for reading.

Enjoy your new eyes!!

Hooray! How wonderful for you!

I just had my eyes checked and was hoping the doctor would say it’s time for cataract surgery. Darn, I’m doing well and the prediction was I’ll be good for at least 2 more years.

That is great news! I am so happy to hear how wonderful you are doing. I am on the edge, waiting with each appointment for my doctor to tell me that it is time. As much as I never want to wish for a surgery, that is one that I will be looking forward to. Wishing you duplicate success with the other eye also!

This morning I could read the scale without my glasses! My brain is actually starting to switch from the "near vision eye" to the "far vision eye" when needed. It's pretty cool! Not sure I dare to walk around or drive without glasses yet, but I can see distance better in the fixed eye than I can in the other eye corrected with glasses. Crazy.

PoohBear, like you, I suspect I will want bifocals for everyday around the house. It will be too annoying to have to put readers on and off all the time. I like to knit and watch TV at the same time, and that would be especially irritating. But I will be able to identify people I am swimming with, without having to break social distancing, and that will be great!

That sounds wonderful! I was a bit nervous when my eye doctor told me that I have the beginnings of cataracts, but it's nice to hear that surgery can really help!
