What do you do for the students with a summer birthday? I have historically done a celebration in May for ALL the summer birthdays. This worked fine until last year when over half my class was a summer birthday and we ended up having an insane amount of treats, celebrating, and chaos. I've seen some teachers do half birthdays during the year to celebrate these students which helps spread the birthday love. What do all of you do?

I assign one day for each student during the last two weeks of school to celebrate summer birthdays. It spreads out the celebrations. I send a note home explaining that we will be celebrating the child's summer birthday and put the date. I also state that it is voluntary. Some years I have a lot and some years I only have a few. Last year there were only two summer birthdays.

One of my DD let the parents of the summer birthdays pick the day, anytime after February. Almost all the kids picked the date (like 25th) of a different month.

We are out at the end of June so I give them a day in June to "celebrate"...but it is just us singing Happy Birthday, a small treat and the use of the special chair...no parents involved.

I think I saw it here on PT. Any of my summer birthdays are assigned a date 6 months before their birthday to celebrate in school. This gives every student a special day. I send home a special letter to inform the parents regarding this in September and a reminder near their 1/2 birthday. It has been working well for the past 14 years.
