Another nice retirement day...

Today, a friend and I went with another friend to Trenton for her retirement planning appointment in the pension office. She drove, and the way she took us had no traffic. A win there!

After her appointment, we went to lunch in Princeton. We had a wonderful lunch at a nice restaurant with great service and no rushing. The only bummer was it was raining pretty hard, so we decided not to walk around and do that another time.

It was nice to help another future retiree on her journey towards retirement. And she insisted on paying for lunch, which was unnecessary, but much appreciated.

Enjoy your weekend, everyone!

Re: NJ pension office appointments

I found that it wasnít necessary to go to Trenton for this pension planning.

I got the big booklet about pension planning NJ updates every year and went to a seminar after school in my county. They offer several each year.

The rest I did online. Easy to do and everything came through just fine. I did make one phone call regarding signing up for Medicare B to be covered before my school insurance ended.

In my friendís case, she was buying back years and it was important she get the correct information to time her paperwork for retirement correctly. In my own case, I could have gone to my NJEA office, but I trusted the Trenton person and had a great experience when my other friend went to do hers and I sat in. I had also attended workshops, but wanted the confirmation officially on the numbers and to make sure my projections were right. Different strokes for different folks. We only had to travel an hour and got a great lunch, so it was all good.
