Hello PT,
With all this Corona virus going on and being on pretty much locked down in our homes. We have to create google classrooms and post daily lessons there for every subject...any of you have to do this?

I am in second grade.

We are planning on using Epic, Reflexmath, Write Bright grammar section, writing journals and Discovery for science. Any other ideas for the above and/or Social Studies?

Mystery Doug is great. Seesaw would work too. I wouldnít make it anything huge. A quick 5 min Mystery Doug video can count as science and if you embed it in Google Form abs have kids write 4-5 sentences about what they learned thatís writing too.

Iím finding teachers are trying to make this really hard.

Give the kids a writing prompt and let them use Google Doc to write their response.

Have listen to a nonfiction book on Epic and do a 3-2-1 on Google Form.

Google Form and Doc will be your best friend.

I teach first and Iím using Google Classroom. Iíve posted a lot of videos. Mostly of things we do everyday, calendar, daily joke, daily trivia, and Iíve been reading them stories. I usually ask a simple question and the kids post a response in the comments.

Iíve given my kids journal prompts through video. I showed videos of my backyard and my dog. Parents Iíve heard from say the kids like it.

Iím using Zearn for math, myon and Kids A-Z for reading. Mystery Science is great and Iím going to use that.

Good luck. Itís a whole new world in teaching for most of us.

I think it (3-2-1) is a structure for comprehension, like a KWL.

A google form can be a quiz, questionnaire, survey, etc. that you can create as a teacher and then assign it to your class. There are various question styles and form styles to choose from. You can have it graded and I believe see stats, probably other stuff, too. You could get to it by clicking on the “waffle” on the upper right hand of your page. Or, google.com/forms.

I believe GreyhoundGirl is suggesting the you create the 321 form. It would take two seconds. (Maybe slightly more ) you would put into the first question: name three different discoveries from reading the test, question two: name two interesting facts from the text, and question three: name one lingering question you have after reading the text.

A google Doc is just a blank page like a Word document.

Any of you use Epic Books? If so which ones should I assign to my kids for second grade?

I teach 2nd and am using Epic, too.

I am assigning books that relate to our Science/SS curriculum.
Also assigning books that I know will be of interest to individual students.
Also assigning books that relate to what we would be studying in class during reading time (fairy tales/folk tales/etc.).

Obviously NOT assigning all of these at once!! That would be overwhelming!

Amazon is offering free Audible with the school closings. You can find books and post a link in Google Classroom to students to hear and comment.

Use Epic's search feature to look for books related to whatever you are studying, such as habitats. I believe you can also assign books to individual students, as opposed to everyone, so you could look for lower level books for emergent readers, etc.
