Missing school? Ideas to get that feeling back.

Are you missing school? It's going to be a long time before you're back in the classroom. But you can bring some of that special atmosphere into your home. Here's some ideas for you:

1. Be the principal for the day. Walk around with an ipad and take notes on who is on task during the day and who is just watching a movie. Don't forget to ask if the movie is on the approved list.

2. Eat your lunch in 15 minutes. I know it's supposed to be 30, but the class in front of you lingered in the cafeteria, making your class late to the tables.

3. Designate one of the bathrooms in your home as "teachers only".

4. Have a fire drill. Make everyone in your family line up and go outside, standing perfectly silent in a single file line.

5. Write a weekly lesson plan and then only follow it on Monday.

6. Make up a standards code and put it at the top of the grocery list. Something like ELA4-1-6.4b.

7. Interrupt your time on the computer by standing up and making a dumb announcement. Something like, "Teachers, Please excuse this interruption. Will Mr. White please report to the cafeteria for a clean-up."

8. Practice your teacher death glare in the bathroom mirror and then go try and make a family pet or your child or husband stop and freeze.

9. Write a note on lined school paper that says "Johnny couldn't do his homework last night because he didn't have any paper." (Actually happened to me.)

10. Say "1...2...3... Eyes on me" at the dinner table.

Your turn...

Haha, these are funny. #5 is my favorite.

11. Create a focus board listing the standards, skills, and objectives you will address each day. Hang it on your front door so visitors can see what you are teaching (but your children can't because they don't look at it anyway).

12. Tell Alexa to remind you that you forgot to take attendance. Make sure she does right in the middle of your first lesson of the day.

13. Make sure you only pee twice a day between the hours of 8 and 3. If you can't hold it that long, be sure to get someone (your husband or the cat) to keep an eye on the kids while you go. If no one is available, assign your most reliable child to take names.

LOVE this. Hereís more:

Wander through the house asking every living thing ďWHO is making that noise?Ē

Stand in a doorway where other family members are working. Just stand there for several minutes watching. Then sigh and just walk away.

Drop a pencil/marker/eraser/scrap of paper on floor and see how days it will take before someone picks it up.

Send email to your entire address book that there will be a mandatory Zoom meeting at 7:30 tomorrow morning. Then donít show up.

That is awesome! And all the additions are great!

Sit around with some stuffed animals and just dish about how much the job sucks right now. Then spent the last minute quickly coming up with a pacing plan for one subject area (might I recommend "domestic bliss"). (I'm simulating PLCs here, in case it's not clear)

Thanks for a good laugh! I would add:

Make sure you are only using the bathroom on your scheduled breaks. If you even have one.

Love #12, Mrs.Lilbit!

I can't tell you how many times through my career that I forgot to send in attendance count.

You can only make or receive phone calls between 9:35 and 9:55 and again 11:50 - 12:30. (Only if you donít have duty.)

Line up your family for lunch reminding them to use personal distancing.

Ha Ha Ha! These are all so funny! Don't forget to:

Write a note to yourself (teacher to parent) about kid's lack of motivation in doing their school work & how disruptive he/she is being in class then write another note to yourself (parent to teacher) blasting the teacher for not challenging kid enough & putting all the blame back on the teacher!

Such creative ideas!

#23 Line up your cat, dog, and DH and say, "I will take this line to lunch when everyone is quiet."
