Zoom vs. Meet Survey

Just out of curiosity, have you been told to use one over the other in your district? We are NOT allowed to use Zoom with kids due to security issues still, we have to use Google Meet. I was just wondering what you have been told in your district?

We are being encouraged to use Zoom with the waiting room and password protection.

I think Meet is easier to use, but doesn't seem to have the same controls that Zoom has. I'm also concerned that kids would enter the room after I left and that they would continue to meet unsupervised.

I'm not too sure that I will utilize either program.

We were told Zoom was our only option for videos (technically, even pre-recorded ones). They gave us lots of info on security settings, but I do still have concerns.

We are only allowed to use zoom due to the fact that meets lets kids go into the room early, click on the link at other times and join the meet without the host there, or stay in the meet after the host was left. My district is afraid of liability with something inappropriate happening with a teacher provided meets link if students are using it at other times without the teacher. With zoom, when you as the host end the meeting other people can't stay, and they can't join before you either. I heard google was working on fixing this; not sure if they have yet. We are also required to use the waiting room feature in zoom so that no one gets in without our permission. We were also told that the hospitals/doctors' offices are using zoom, and if it's good enough for HIPPA then it's good enough for us.

I haven't seen anything one way or the other from our district.

Zoom, with the same security settings as everyone else. We're not allowed to use it to teach lessons, only to have short check-ins with students. So far I have liked Zoom, but the stories of security issues are concerning. I don't plan to use it often.

Our kids don't even have access to Meet on their school accounts.

We cannot use either one. We will be using Blackboard Collaborate Ultra

Zoom with security settings. Meet lets students rejoin without a teacher present.

We do small group teaching, whole group socializing.

I use Zoom once a week for class meetings. I use the waiting room and password. I also invite families to join us. Iím ok with it right now. My district hasnít encouraged one over the other.

We were told not use Zoom. Partly because of security reasons/FERPA concerns and partly because they wanted everyone to use one platform, so students and parents didn't have to learn more than one.

BigBlueButton is integrated into our LMS. I like Zoom better, but we canít record our lessons on Zoom, according to our district.

Meetings meet vs zoom

My district let us use either. They set up the restrictions on zoom for us. I have tried both and I like the control I have in zoom. I must confess I did have a Lord of the Flies moment in Meet when I first started. The kids took over for a bit and OMG. It took a bit for me to get control again, not a good feeling in the digital world. In Zoom I am able to control more of what they do.
