Please tell me your method for collecting class work. I have a small group, so I spot check a lot of things they finish. This has never been a problem in the past, but this year the kids are not doing well behaviorally when i am conferencing. I do like the spot check to help with small difficulties and for quick reteaching, though. I would like to hear your methods for this seemingly simple part of day to day classroom life

I have a small group and spot check, too. When they are done with independent work, they can get up and take their papers to the 'done' basket, then get a book while the others finish. I'm in 1st and all the papers for the day go into the same basket. I empty it daily.

When papers need to be passed in at the same time, they pass them down/up, depending on the desk configuration and the end person puts them into the basket.

I rarely collect work unless it is a test that needs to be graded. We either go over independent practice together, or I scan to see who needs more help. These papers go home with them each day.

Table captains collect it and put it in a bin. I have bin #1, bin #2 and the late work bin. I tell them to either put it in bin 1 or bin 2. By having table captains collect it I have 5 kids up instead of 23. Kids rotate captains every Monday. It works for me.

Each student has a colored folder to put all work in each day. I got tired of trying to track down no name papers. I try to collect the folders every few days. Graded papers stay on one side to transfer to go home folder. Unfinished work stays on other side to work on the next morning when they enter. Sometimes I do get behind but for the most part it works well.

I've used the organizer from Lakeshore to organize turned in work.
