...but Iím told I donít know what Iím talking about according to dh. I have attached a picture of the hole in the wall where the fixed frame TV projector screen is going to be mounted in our basement. Yes itís going to be that big-120 inches. I said I think itís too big. Dh said he wishes it could be bigger .

I think I might get motion sick watching tv on it. I think that was dhís plan to keep me from wanting to be down there-kidding...kind of.

I agree, that is huge! We ended up with a 60 inch TV in our house (replacing our console TV, which I loved ) and I didnít like it at first. But I got used to it.

Will you be having parties (eventually) down there? It will make it seem like a movie theater.

Whatever makes you both happy, but Iím not a big tv person. My DH, however, would love a tv that big.

Yup, a personal movie theater is his goal. He loves movies but hates going to the theater because of people being rude and talking. It drove him so crazy that it made him build his own theater lol. The ceiling will be painted black (like a theater lol) and a dark color, TBD, will be on the walls. The couch will be a charcoal gray color. We are also planning on putting sconces on the wall for theater lighting. He will finally have a place for all his favorite movie posters.

Right behind that hole you might be able to see a platform. That is where speakers will be. He is also putting speakers in the ceiling and walls, which haven't been installed yet. We had the ceiling insulated with a special noise reducing insulation called Rock Wool. There is also going to be a bar and a music room for all his instruments. It's going to be a loud basement and a fun place to entertain once we are allowed to again...sigh

Munchkins-I bet you're happy to not be in New Jersey right now.

What is it with men and their basement remodels?

We remodeled our basement a few years ago. DH decided he wanted a bar. We looked into making one and actually found one exactly what we wanted but cheaper already made.

We just didn't think about HOW we were going to get it into the room. We actually had to take out the double windows and hoist the bar through the opening .

That's huge Jackie ! How exciting for your dh. Maybe you can have room to put some elevated seating far away from the screen for you. Your dh will need a popcorn machine ,candy and soda area too

My Dh would fill the entire wall with a tv! When we bought our tv, the salesman recommended this:

A general guideline is to sit between 1.5 to 2.5 times the diagonal screen measurement away, with about a 30-degree viewing angle. For example, if you have a 40" TV, you should be sitting somewhere between 5 and 8.3 feet from the screen.

He said if itís too big, you will get a headache.

It worked out for dh, our tv is 70 inches.

I love it, especially the whole surround-sound setup and bar! You're going to have so much fun in that basement when it's finished!

If there is a bathroom down there, and really comfy recliners, I would never, ever see my DH again.

And yes, I would get nauseous watching something that big at close range.

We are putting a full bathroom down there and we got one of those LoveSac Sactionals. So yeah, my DH will never emerge from the basement again. The one thing I'm looking forward to with a TV that size is playing Mario Kart with my kid. That will be tons of fun.

Oh Anna, he's got it ordered already!

My DS has a theater space and a screen that big. I thought it was silly but now I really enjoy watching movies on the big screen.

He’s got the popcorn cart too

We have some friends that have a theater room. It is very cool. They have 6 lazy boy chairs in it. I would love to do something like that but we donít have a basement. I wish we did.

That size screen is huge but your family will have so much fun in your theater room.

Wow, I can't even envision such an indulgence, but I would seriously love it, I think! Movies are some of my favorite things and I would possibly live down there

For a regular family room, that would be overly huge. But if the intent is to have a movie theater, it's probably just about right. As long as the chairs can be far enough back so you don't get sick.
