You cannot lie to your boss - ever. If you are asked a direct question then you must answer the question. If you lie then you will be at fault as much, or more than the person that your boss is asking about. Dont go there.

I would never lie. But I was thinking I could say "I don't want to get anyone in trouble...." And see how that goes. It is just so awkward! Wonder if I should talk to my union rep.

I agree with MathWA...you need to tell her who told you to send the kids to computers. You made a mistake, and don't want to compound it by not answering a direct question from your boss.

I don't know the whole climate and such of your school, but I agree that I think you should just tell him. The way it occurred is *not* as if you are tattling on your co-worker or anything. Others may have a better/different opinion, but I think getting a rep involved would be overkill and might even raise more suspicions that there is something fishy going on when it may be as simple as needing to make sure the other teacher knows the procedures.

Thanks guys!
I feel better about everything now. I am kind to people, am positive, love my job, and cannot control people who are not on the same path.

...but it seems as if your boss is over reacting some in this situation. You apologized and I'm sure that you will mention it to the co-worker. It doesn't sound as if any "danger" to the children is involved here.

Thus mentioned, I agree that you should disclose the name but would give your co worker the heads up on it also.

do you want to take the blame when someone else actually made the mistake? Tell your boss what happened, no harm, no foul.

Don't try to avoid answering his question because that can pi$$ him off. Yep - been there & done that. Ouch!
