I saw this on FB. Anyone know if this kid was using a strategy and if so what was he doing? Looks like something to do with base 10.

Not sure, but looks to me like this kid was using finger multiplication, but instead of fingers, tic marks. Look at this article to see what I mean...

I was positive I saved the post as the teacher was going to ask the student. Unfortunately, it is not in my saved posts. It was fascinating and I figured if I ever went back to teaching it would be good to have in my toolbox.
