I know it's been said here a million times. If we taught the way PD's were handled we'd be fired.

I just sat through a 3 hour PD and was given a 5 minute break and then sat through another 2 hours.

Really?

We've finally decided that since we're not given real time to use the bathroom, we make our own time.......in a big group that looks like a drove temporarily exiting the auditorium.
Happens every single PD.

I never wait anymore. I am at an age now where once I think about "breaking," my bladder is immediately ready and going. I cannot wait in a long, long line. If I haven't been in a while, and I sense they are getting read to break, I get up and go.

Even if they immediately call for a break, I am already done. Then I use the meeting's break to walk or stretch or whatever.

Same here. Five hour pd with one ten minute break today. I made my own several times.

My husband's school had a pd last week where they were lectured the whole time about how they shouldn't lecture.

I'm always annoyed when the admin and/or coach leading the meeting is obviously under-prepared. The slides don't work, the sound doesn't work, they forgot to link something, the slides are in the wrong order, they didn't copy the hand out, they're confused about who is presenting what. Perhaps if we had more of a general "things happen" attitude as a building I could get over it, but they're obsessed with teachers being ridiculously prepared for each and every lesson. We would get dinged on an observation for doing the same stuff they do pretty much every time. And if the expectation is that we take the time to be ridiculously over prepared for every minute of class, then you take the time to be that prepared for your PD presentations.

As for breaks, I've always made my own. If I have to go to the bathroom, I'm not waiting for a scheduled break. And sometimes I decide I have to go to the bathroom because I need to get up and walk somewhere .

I prefer lectures. Any other activities, as the presenters I've had, were clearly tie fillers and nothing we could do in class.
