Yet another parade...

Signed out so that if this is the worst parade post ever, it wonít follow me around, lol.

Our P sent out a poll/vote about an end of school parade. The idea was for teachers to line the sidewalks of the school for an hour one evening so that parents could drive by and we could wave to the kids. Me and a few others voted no...we were outnumbered.

Can this crappy year just be over????? Can we please just be done???????? Iím tired!!!! I honestly donít care that I didnít get to finish the year out with some of my kids because some were awful!!!!

Itís a small school, and I feel forced to do it because itíll be painfully obvious if Iím not there. Trust me, my P looks for crap like this. My state is reopening, so weíre allowed to gather in groups of more than 10, so I canít even use that as a reason.

Rant over.

We have been basically told that doing a parade violates the stay-at-home order. I am just as happy not to do one :-)

Closure

I agree that this year needs to end, but I think the closure is needed. Ours sounds like yours, but with a practical purpose. Ours will stop, pop the trunk, and we will retrieve all the books we sent home, and put a bag with their personal belongings that they left behind. Then we wave goodbye.

I will be glad to say goodbye, and I want my books back for my classroom library!

We are doing a parade promotion, oh wait- 2 parade promotions tomorrow for kinders and our 5th graders. Some parents (one who happens to be a teacher at the school) thought it would be not nice to hand them their classroom belongings at the same time, so the same kids have to return over the next 2 days to pick up their stuff.

We will have the belonging pick up in a very similar fashion the next 2 days. So, for 3 days in a row teachers will be outside for hours waving and handing things out. We are rotating on the belonging days, but teachers are required to be there participating for an hour and a half each day for 2 days. The promotions will take about 2 hours.

THen I think we are more or less done. Just have to turn in our keys for the summer.

I find lying helps in these situations. Can you tell your P you have a cough and you think it's nothing, but just to be safe, of course you can't attend!

I want the year to be over too. We have more school parades scheduled and I enjoyed the first two, but I'm over it now. It's actually kind of stressful to plan to gather. I don't feel comfortable with it yet.

I'm not one to promote dishonesty but in this case it would be really tempting!

If you have to participate I hope you will find at least a little spark of joy

Ugh. I would not enjoy having to do that. I am sorry. I'm assuming they are having you stay 6 feet away from each other at least.

I guess go, fake a smile on your face, wave, and go home and THEN you'll be done.

Well, my thought son parades were made pretty clear in previous post.

All those people in one place, even if it is outside, defeats the whole purpose of social distancing.

We have so many parades at this point I have lost track. Everybody gets a parade. Teacher appreciation, administrative staff appreciation, kids birthdays, teacher birthdays, graduating seniors - enough. Last week there was a parade through my block and a child of about 7 or 8 was standing up in the sunroof. If his parent had to stop short, he would have gotten seriously hurt. Enough already.
