Do you think this will work?

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Iíve got my classroom arranged except for student desks. Iím trying to get my head around it.

My room has two tables and short bookshelves along the back wall. They will be staying, and Iím covering the shelves with clear shower curtains. That way I can see items, and we can use them if we have to.

No decorations sitting around. Only absolutely necessary items outósharpener, etc.

No standing desks. No stools. No podium or stool for me. No rolling laptop cart for me.

All 24 kid desks will remain in room, with labels on desks that canít be used. All seats in rows, facing same direction. I have 22 to 4 kids per class, but I have not yet removed the kids doing remote learning. It looks like maybe a third of the kids will do remote, but Iím not sure how they fall in the rosters.

My desk is in a corner and faces the kids. It canít be moved due to the computer hookup for the Smartboard, which is also my teacher workstation. I bought rolling garment racks, and Iím going to attach clear shower curtains and essentially make myself a cubicle.

Does that sound doable?

I like your idea for your desk, but my only concern would be fire laws because of the plastic curtains. But I think you did a great job in setting the classroom up for use.

I would just make sure you get the okay from your principal on the shower curtains. Our district sent out a memo saying absolutely no teacher made plastic barriers as it goes against fire code.

Nice layout. Will your students be eating in the classroom too? In my former district any type of barrier that is considered free standing needs to be approved no matter what the material is. It had to be inspected and installed by maintenance .

Just check with your district. We got told we couldn't bring in any kind of dividers that weren't already in our room (no, they're not providing any).

I would consider arranging your room for your biggest class and putting extra desks in the front or back of the room, against the wall. Keep an extra desk or two out for new students.

Got desks arranged today. I can fit 14 kids.

Custodian didnít seem to think there would be an issue with my divider around the desk. Going to put that up this weekend.
