They won't be quiet. They're not talking about anything bad. They all get along so that is not a problem. But they just won't stop, and it's driving me crazy! I just had to get that out

Yes, I understand. It's good that it's nothing bad and they all get along, but they still have to follow rules regardless. Do you do class dojo? As soon as I start giving points, they all stop talking midsentence. (4th grade ) lol Just keep reinforcing those rules with whatever plan you use.
Maybe give them 2 minutes before lesson to get it out. That drives me nuts too.

I started implementing the Freedom List with a particular 7th grade group. It's been going really well.

I start the year by reading the book No Talking by Andrew Clements. You might want to give it a try haha.

They are great kids but they won't shut up. I can get them settled down but it only lasts for about 5 minutes or so ...then a few start to whisper and it escalates from there until the room is so loud I can't hear myself think.
Then I quiet them down and it starts all over. It's going to drive me crazy!

What I've done in the past with awfully chatty groups is time how much time the class is sitting and chatting. Then sit down and have a chat, explaining how much learning time is being wasted. I know my kids respond to bribery, so I have given five minutes of free time at the end when everyone is cleaning up to talk. But each time a person uttered a word during instruction I took a minute or ten seconds or whatever time you feel is necessary off the free time and that is the time they had to sit in silence to 'contemplate better actions.' as a full class. You'd be surprised how silent the room gets then and how they want to work towards that free time. It was the strangest thing. Just a thought.

This year's class is one of the most disrespectful I have had. Talking, yelling, making faces, and making strange noises. I have caught a few mocking me behind my back. It is only second grade! I feel defeated already and it is only the fourth day of school. The principal and the guidance counselor have already removed a student twice from the classroom because of dangerous behaviors. I am exhausted already!
