C3 small vs whole idea

I'm working on ideas for AYA Science.

For my small group idea I'm planning on having groups break up depending on their skill level, such as balancing equations. One group might be doing hands on work with me while other groups are working on book work and applications. Would it be more effective to have the 15 min video just on the group I am working with or to have the camera follow me as I check in and help out another group as well?

For my whole group I was planning on showing students present their lab findings on large whiteboards to small groups. Students would be answering questions and giving feedback in short session before rotating. Is this ok or is too much like a small group?

Your first question: it is up to you which you choose. Look at the prompts in the WC to decide which one gives you more to write about.

The second one is more of a grey area for me. It's whole group in the sense they are all doing the same thing, but small group because they are...well...in small groups! It also doesn't sound like you're teaching much in this one.

I think you're better off making your whole group video very clearly WHOLE group. I ran into the same issue when I was recording my videos. In my opinion, in a whole group video, any given student would have the opportunity to respond to the teacher or any other student in the room at any time. If that's not possible, because they are broken up into different groups or whatever, then is it really whole group?

Did you end up doing more direct instruction for the whole group then?
I've read through many questions and responses and feel like the whole group is a bit all over the place.

I did a seminar discussion for my whole group. So, me and the entire class sat in a circle and had a discussion about a text. I did the same discussion with four different classes and then picked the one that had the most examples of the students responding to each other.
