New Special Ed Teacher- 4th Grade

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Hi everyone
I have been assigned to 4th grade special education this year. I will be working between a few classes. This is new for me because I have never worked with older children. I have always worked with younger (K-2). I am ready for the challenge, but I am very nervous about the curriculum (especially math) and providing interventions for struggling students.

If anyone has any advice, recommended books, websites, successful interventions, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Hello. I have always done K-2 as well. I am teaching 4th grade self contained in Septemeber. I have 12 students in my class. I have to say I am most nervous about the state exams. My students will be taking the ELA's, Math and Science. I am in NY. Good luck and perhaps we can share ideas and experiences. Thanks!!

Check out these books. I completed my first year in a self-contained special ed. classroom. Math is my weak area, so I've been trying to figure out something better for this coming school year. I do Daily 5 (modified) for reading and was looking for something similar in math. I think guided math is going to be the perfect solution for my students. The author of the two books also maintains a yahoo group which has some good info. You can also check out the guided math group on this board.

Best of luck to you both and please don't hesitate to ask any questions. This is a great place to learn and grow as an educator.

Thanks for the book recommendation. I am definitely going to check it out.

Has anyone used the book "Teaching student centered mathematics" Grades 3-5?

Thanks!
