Another small accomplishment

Not “worthy” of posting to some, but I’m tickled. I’ve decided an accomplishment can be any challenge I’ve attacked—even if it seems “simple” to others.

My small balcony had 1 ancient and oxidized light fixture and 1 plated outlet. I researched new fixtures (not my area of expertise) and yesterday had an electrician wire them in place. While working on the balcony, I noticed the spiky thingees on ledges (to deter bird parking/pooping) had cobwebs. In dusting the cobwebs, I cleverly managed to dislodge 2 of the 3 thingees. I washed them thoroughly, walked to the hardware store for advice, and came home with silicone glue.

The accomplishment: I climbed on a step ladder on my 3rd-floor balcony to glue them back in place. I’ve posted about my terrible balance, so that was scary!

Good for you for researching about the fixtures (isn't the internet amazing?) and getting it done. Kudos most of all for the progress you've made with your balance issues that made it possible to fix the thingees yourself.

That made my heart stop. The idea of you up on a ladder on your 3rd floor balcony. Did you at least ask the neighbor to steady the ladder? While I admire your independent I can do this spirit, please be careful.

I am sure you took all precautions when climbing the ladder.....
Bet it felt good to do it.

Question, though: do you think the spiky things are supposed to come out?

Sometimes we have to do things out of our comfort zone to stay independent. And independence is good.

Indeed, I bet it was scary! Reading your post made my legs weak! You are courageous and I am not using that word lightly!

You are one brave woman. It's more impressive with getting on the ladder 3 floors up than anything else you did I am terrified of heights.

Yea, for fixing the thingees! I will suggest that you keep your phone in your pocket or at least nearby if you are going to be climbing on ladders on the balcony. I won't go up in the attic without mine- just in case.

Good for you! But I also wondered about the danger part. Be careful!
Home ownership is filled with fixing things, isn't it??
